Artist To Be Special Guest At NY 4-H
Shooting Sports Banquet & Auction

BALLSTON SPA (March 27, 2008) – Cody Short, a wildlife and outdoor photographer and artist renowned for his ability to capture and convey the beauty and wonderment of nature, will be a special guest at the 9th Annual New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Banquet and Auction on Saturday, April 19 at Roaring Brook Ranch Resort & Conference Center, Lake George.

The banquet is the primary fundraiser for the New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Program. Leaders in the shooting industry join volunteer instructors, 4-H participants and friends to recognize outstanding contributions to the program and help raise funds by bidding on items in the live and silent auctions as well as play various games. All funds raised directly support the New York State 4-H Shooting Sports Program.

Mr. Short, accompanied by his wife Leanne, will attend the banquet to answer questions from attendees of the banquet and auction about his artwork.

In addition, Mr. Short has donated a 26” x 38” piece called “Bachelor Group” to help raise money for New York State 4-H Shooting Sports. “Bachelor Group” is an image of three gobblers strutting to find a mate. Shots like this inspired Mr. Short to create his own turkey calls fashioned out of PA hardwoods. He has handcrafted a selection of box calls and slate calls, some of which he has also donated.

His donations will be auctioned off during the live auction. All funds raised at the banquet are used to help offset the cost of training and certifying instructors, buy equipment and supplies, provide grants for counties to start shooting sports programs and instruct youth about firearm safety and responsibility across New York state.

Currently residing in Milton, PA, Mr. Short grew up in northern Lycoming County, P.A. He was born with a love for nature, and the photographer in him grew in his teenage years. He has learned that with patience, trial and error he can hone his craft and create breathtaking pictures for the sheer enjoyment of others.

Taking his position behind a blind, bolder, or stump well before dawn, he waits. “The animals slowly stir and move out of the forest searching for food to start their day,” said Short. “That’s when I shoot them, with a camera, of course!”

Mr. Short focuses his photography on deer, elk, turkey, fox, coyote and birds of prey. He also loves to shoot sunrises, sunsets, stream scapes and waterfalls. “The paradise we live in lends itself perfectly to what I love to do. Being in the right place at the right time helps a little, too,” continued Short.

The 4-H Shooting Sports Program’s primary goal is human growth and development. Teaching safe and responsible use of firearms and archery equipment opens valuable vocational and life-long recreational education, as well as prevents children and adults from making avoidable mistakes with firearms.

Tickets for the 9th Annual Recognition Banquet and Auction are currently on sale for $32 per person, which includes admission, hors d’oeuvres and dinner. A preview of the live auction will begin at 4 p.m. The silent auction and games will also begin at 4 p.m. Dinner, special recognitions and the presentation of awards will begin at 6 p.m. The live auction will begin at 7:30 p.m.
