The 2nd New York State Assembly's Annual Sportsmen & Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day

The 2nd New York State Assembly's Annual Sportsmen & Outdoor Recreation Legislative Awareness Day was held on January 25, 2011 at the New York State Legislative Building in Albany, NY. Chuck Cunningham, Director of Political Affairs for the National Rifle Association (NRA), was the keynote speaker.

Bill Schwerd, NYS 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, was among the key group of the speakers to address the crowd of approximately 2000 that gathered for this year's bi-partisan sponsored event.  Other speakers included Tom King, President, New York State Rifle & Pistol Association (NYSRPA), Stephen Alstadt, President, Shooters Committee On Political Education (SCOPE) and James Rabbia, Plant Manager for Remington Arms.

NYS 4-H Shooting Sports hosted an educational booth featuring the 4-H Laser Shot exhibit throughout the day.  NYS 4-H Shooting Sports representatives in attendance included Instructors Ron Surdyka, Russ Lehr, Jack Mazur and Tony Eastwood as well as Teen Ambassadors Kelsey Reppert and Rachael Trojan.

New York State 4-H Shooting Sports was represented at the 2011 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV, by NYS 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator Bill Schwerd, Assistant State Coordinator John Bowe, Education Specialist Kenyon Simpson, 4-H Staff Educators Mary Fairley and Martina Yngente, 4-H Shooting Sports Teen Ambassadors Katie McIntyre and Rachael Trojan and 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteer Dan McIntyre.

The 12th Annual New York State 4-H Shooting Sports
Recognition Banquet & Auction will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center located on Lake George, NY.  Full detailed information for this event will be forthcoming.  Special overnight accommodation/banquet/breakfast priced packages will be available only through 4-H Shooting Sports registrations.

The Winter Regional 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop
February 25, 26, and 27, 2011

The New York, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Vermont 4-H Shooting Sports Programs’ Annual Winter Workshop will certify volunteer leaders as 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors.  The workshop will feature the following disciplines (based on a minimum enrollment of five participants): Air Pistol, Archery, Air Pistol, Archery, Coordinator, Living History, Muzzle Loading, Rifle, and Shotgun.
